Ride Elevation Profiles

I simply don’t trust the altitude readings from my Garmin 305.  The results vary too much over the exact same course on different days.

These two elevation profiles are at least reasonable (and maybe a little understated) and they are probably fine for comparing the difficulty of different sections of the ride. But I won’t pretend these are dead-on accurate, they are simply what my GPS said on that given day.

The first is Horsetooth Reservoir, starting at the intersection in Bellvue, heading south to Horestooth Mountain Park, turning round and heading back to Bellvue.  So all climbs, coming and going are shown. (The squiggly line shows the changing percent grade at each point)

This is the Rist Canyon profile, starting at the intersection in Bellvue to the top, in 1 mile splits.

Another nifty little climb in the same area is Bingham Hill Road. I see quite a few riders on it, but I expect they are using it more as a short-cut than training ride.

Anywho, the climb from Bellvue (N CoRd 23) east to the top is 0.5 miles, averages 6.4% grade with a max grade of 10.7%.

From the other direction, starting at N Overland Trail heading west to the top is 1 mile, averages 3.6% grade and maxes at 10.6%.

The scenery heading west, from the top down towards Bellvue looks like the Shire.
